Spending Trends
Tourist card spending totaled 64 billion ISK in 2020, down 72.8% from 2019. On a per-night basis, spending averaged 65k ISK, an increase of 12.2% year-over-year. Spending growth outpaced volume growth, suggesting higher per-visitor expenditure.
Seasonal Patterns
Feb was the busiest month with 303,851 foreign overnight stays, while Apr recorded the lowest volume at 3,620 nights. Average hotel occupancy ranged from winter lows to summer peaks, with a full-year average of 24.3%.
Source Markets
United Kingdom remained Iceland's largest source market, accounting for 23.5% of foreign overnight stays. United States of America (18.5%) and Germany (11.7%) rounded out the top three.
